Durand
East Michigan Native Plants, LLC is a state-licensed and inspected nursery specializing in pesticide-free, Michigan genotype native plants—including wildflowers, grasses, sedges, shrubs, and trees—for gardening, education, and ecological restoration. Founded in 2018 by Angela and Jim Nelson, the nursery now grows over 100 species of Michigan native plants.
Located in Durand, Michigan, East Michigan Native Plants, LLC supplies native plants to parks, nature preserves, schools, and homeowners across the state. Its unique Mobile Native Plant Nursery has also provided thousands of plants for local fundraisers and community events.
The nursery’s full-service website, EastMichNatives.com, allows customers to browse and purchase native plants online, with pre-season ordering available. Orders are filled May 15–October 1 and can be shipped, delivered, or picked up at the nursery. On-site shopping is available by appointment during the same period.
Owner Angela Nelson holds a degree in Horticulture Science from Michigan State University and brings over 30 years of experience in the green industry. As a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, she draws inspiration and passion for Michigan’s native flora and fauna from her heritage. Jim Nelson, a U.S. Armed Forces veteran, works part-time at the nursery and assists with plant care and operations.
In addition to growing native plants, East Michigan Native Plants, LLC offers a range of services to support native landscaping and ecological restoration, including:
- Workshops, presentations, and educational hikes
- Consultations and design services for native plant gardens
- Plant installations and habitat restoration
- On-location biological surveys and invasive species identification
The nursery is committed to helping communities, schools, and homeowners connect with and restore Michigan’s native ecosystems through plants, education, and hands-on experience.
