Designs by Nature - Upper Peninsula

Designs By Nature - UP Native Plants, LLC (UP Native Plants), is a state licensed and inspected native plant nursery located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  UP Native Plants offers pesticide-free native Michigan wildflowers, grasses, and garden kits with a focus on UP genotypes.  They offer plug flats for habitat restoration and remediation of larger areas. Custom growing is available.

UP Native Plants is an independently owned nursery operated by Michelle Wietek-Stephens and mentored by Designs By Nature, LLC.  Michelle enjoyed a 15-year career as an environmental consultant before taking time to focus on a growing family.  During her previous career, Michelle consulted on environmental protection, site restoration, and wetland management.  

What started in 2004 as a newlywed couple reintroducing natives to the yard of their starter home blossomed in 2021 into a full-fledged Native Plant Nursery at Michelle’s century-old family homestead.  UP Native Plants has provided plants for education centers, service organizations, site remediation, landscaping, and home-owners.  Sales are primarily conducted through their website, with pickup by appointment only.  UP Native Plants also attends several local Farmer’s Markets and supplies wholesale plants for plant sales throughout the Upper Peninsula.  Market and plant sale dates and locations are available on the UP Native Plants website.
